Endodontics.

The preservation of teeth is gaining more and more importance in dentistry. The demographic change and the constantly growing patient demands are leading to an increased focus on endodontic treatments. This is because in many cases, a root canal treatment is the only way to preserve a tooth.

Step by step the perfect instrument for successful treatments.

Thanks to the latest treatment methods and manufacturing processes in file production, even the most challenging anatomies can be treated and the most incorrect pretreatments can be rectified. The goal is always to remove as much of the infected or necrotic tissue as possible. To perform an effective endodontic treatment, it helps to have an universally applicable flow chart at hand with information on the different steps of endodontic therapies along with the appropriate instruments that are recommended for each step. The flow chart contains everything you need to know about endodontic treatments in a nutshell.

All that remains for you to do is to make a few decisions:

  • Would you prefer to work in a rotary or reciprocating motion?
  • With a single-file or multiple-file system?
  • Would you like the EndoPilot or EnGO to support you during the treatment as a motor, apex locator and obturation device?
  • Do you wish to use sonic tips for the different finishing touches?
  • Are you planning to complete the root canal preparation according to the single-cone technique or a thermoplastic filling technique?

Don’t worry, we are going to guide you through the basic flow-chart step by step on the following subpages.

Endodontic treatment Step by Step.

Access Cavity.

The creation of a perfect access cavity is the first step of any endodontic treatment. In many cases, this is more complicated than the subsequent preparation of the root canal. Komet offers a comprehensive range of special instruments for this.

Coronal reaming.

The opening of the root canal system is followed by the preparation of the root canals. Komet provides a vast line of instruments for this, from the well-established Gates-Glidden burs to Orifice Opener.

Creation of a glide path.

The creation of a glide path is indispensable for ensuring successful endodontic treatments. This step facilitates the correct estimation of the anatomy of the root canal, thus ensuring that the subsequently used files for root canal preparation work safely and efficiently.

Mechanical Preparation.

Apart from the basic task of removing as much infected tissue from the root canals as possible, the mechanical preparation of root canals is focused on providing the canal with a tapered shape. The product range provided by Komet comprises both rotary and reciprocating file systems.

Obturation.

After the preparation and chemical cleaning of the root canal system, the canals have to be tightly sealed with a suitable obturation to prevent reinfection. Komet provides a comprehensive range of paper and gutta-percha points as well as bioceramic sealers.

Retreatment.

In case of a failed endodontic treatment, for example caused by persistent bacteria or a recolonization of the endodontium, a retreatment is often the only chance to save the tooth. The range provided by Komet to this end includes instruments for removing all types of different filling material and a special instrument set for removing fractured files that are stuck inside the root canal.
