Celebrate Your Routine

And elevate your excavation

In line with modern defect-oriented and minimally invasive treatments, over-preparation should be avoided: Remove as much material as necessary, but as little as possible. According to the state of the art, the demineralized dentin should not be completely removed if it is not carious. However, as it is relatively soft, it can easily be removed by accident, which can lead to over-preparation. Determining the boundary of the cavity is a tricky task for the dentist.

As carious dentin is relatively sticky, and clogged-up instruments do not remove substance effectively, Komet round burs H1SE / H1SEM are provided with large chip spaces. These are less likely to clog up and any debris can be rinsed off easily, so that the instrument remains effective throughout the treatment. Moreover, the tip transversing blade ensures fast excavation and reduces vibration, which leads to greater comfort for both dentist and patient.

Another innovation is Komet’s PolyBur®, a self-limiting round instrument made of polymer. It is an indispensable tool in this sector, used for excavation in vicinity of the pulp to prevent inadvertent opening. The special material of the PolyBur® reliably prevents inadvertent excessive preparations because after the removal of soft, carious dentin, the instrument automatically blunts on harder, healthy dentin – thus limiting itself.

I always use a round bur for excavation, especially for preparation and caries removal in proximity to the pulp.

H1SE & H1SEM

Komet introduces the H1SE, a tungsten carbide round bur with unique hybrid toothing manufactured to state-of-the-art standard. The combination of two different types of toothing on one bur head enhances the dental functionality and increases treatment comfort. The round shape of the working part and the sharp tip transversing blade enable quick and gentle excavation. At the same time, vibrations are greatly reduced thanks to the staggered toothing on the lateral surface of the instrument – for greater comfort to the patient and the dentist. Laboratory results confirm the subjective perception of a particularly smooth operation. The H1SEM offers all the advantages of the H1SE, but features a particularly slim neck for improved visibility, which makes it ideally suited for use with treatment microscopes.

All in all, the smooth operation of the H1SEM greatly increases patient comfort

The PolyBur P1 has fundamentally changed caries excavation. The instrument facilitates reproducible, selective excavation and gentler caries removal while protecting the pulp. Only the PolyBur can do this, it’s simply sensational.

Shining a Light on PolyBur® P1

The PolyBur® is ideal for gentle caries excavation in both primary and permanent teeth, particularly when patients are clinically asymptomatic. The round bur efficiently removes soft, carious dentin, particularly effective for “hidden caries” in permanent teeth. Its material hardness prevents overpreparation or inadvertent pulp chamber exposure. Thanks to the P1’s automatic blunting of hard, healthy dentin, it preserves vital 0.5 to 0.7 mm of dentin near the pulp, earning it the moniker “self-limiting”. This feature ensures precise and minimally invasive treatment, safeguarding dental health effectively.
