Komet’s contribution for your aligner therapy.
Innovative instruments from the dental expert for optimum and safe treatments.
Quality-products by Komet for optimum interproximal enamel reduction.
The treatment of misaligned teeth with braces or aligners often contains the interproximal reduction of enamel. Komet offers a considerable portfolio, providing everything you need for a successful treatment – from manual honeycomb strips to oscillating discs.
Greater safety during orthodontic stripping.
Take advantage of Komets solution for mechanical stripping by using the OS30 orthodontic handpiece in combination with the OS segment discs – made for efficient interproximal enamel reduction!
Problems that arise with hand instruments (diamond strips), like too little space for grinding movements or jamming, are only partly solved with rotary diamond discs. Although stripping is facilitated considerably by using rotary discs, there are still disadvantages like the risk of damaging soft tissue and an obstructed vision when using a discguard.
Also, compared to rotary discs with full radius and diameters of up to 2.2 cm, which must be used with a disc-guard, the segment disc offers the best features for stripping in hard-to-reach areas. Thanks to optimal vision and excellent grinding efficiency, the OS disc with its design is an innovative instrument leading to absolutely convincing results.
Out of the optimal coordinated system, the oscillating segment discs stand out through accurate removal of dental enamel, excellent view on the treatment site and precise handling throughout the treatment. All this minimizes the risk of injuring soft tissue, so that both you and your patients benefit from a safe treatment.
Advantages:
- Minimal risk of injury to the soft tissue due to oscillating operation
- Optimal view and excellent removal of debris thanks to the honeycomb design
- Ring and laser markings on the shank for easier identification

Komet’s latest OS disc for IPR at the first point of contact
Developed for dentists and patients.
Developed for dentists and patients. Recently, Komet extended its portfolio of oscillating discs. The latest addition now allows the safe removal of enamel from the very first point of contact. Dentist benefit from the uncoated center of the new disc as it facilitates the initial separation even in close-set teeth.

Sonic tips for stripping and shaping
With the sonic stripping tips, it is thus possible to perform unilateral (mesial or distal) enamel removal on both front and back teeth under conditions of absolute safety and respect for anatomy and without damaging the neighboring tooth.
Unlike reciprocal files, abrasive strips and rotary instruments, Stripping tips allow truly homothetic removal of enamel and, most importantly, do not affect gums and papillae.
Not only orthodontics with sonic tips for stripping and shaping. With these proximal surface instruments, stripping prior to crown preparation or rounding interproximal transitions along the preparation margin during cavity preparation becomes a fast and safe operation. Coated with diamond grit on one side only, these instruments can effectively shape proximal surfaces in cases of composite fillings in a short time. Straight tips ("Strip") and convex tips ("Shape") are available, and the coating is only on one side, "M" for mesial surfaces and "D" for distal surfaces.

Komet’s rotating segment discs
When using all buccal and lingual fixed appliances and also with thealigner treatment, approximal enamel reduction has become an indispensable part of successful extraction, especially in adult therapy, has become an indispensable part of successful tooth correction.
Komet's DISCtance IPR system includes a range of new stripping discs for the precise achievement of the most common interdental removal thicknesses (0.15 / 0.2 /0.3 mm). The use of rotating diamond discs ensures a high cutting force or removal rate and thus allows an efficient and simple treatment procedure.
Application Instructions:
The stripping disk is used in a handpiece for longfor long, straight shafts.
- The optimum speed is5,000 rpm.
- Apply the stripping disk from the occlusal orvestibular and move it in a steady, slow slow movement through the through the contact point. Start with a 0.15 mm thick disc and then successively (0.15 / 0.2 / 0.3 mm) until the desired stock removal is achieved.
- Use only with sufficient spray cooling and disk protection.
- For the subsequent approximal enamel polishing (ASP), we recommend commercially available polishing discs.

Manual stripping:
Diamond and honeycomb strips
If manual handling is preferred for approximal enamel reduction, flexible diamond strips can be used. Likewise, the strips are indispensable for dissolving the initial contact. Honeycomb and diamond strips are available in 3 different grit sizes (medium, fine, extra fine) and 2 widths (2.5 mm and 3.75 mm). They allow shaping and finishing for a smooth, natural surface.
The 4 main advantages of the honeycomb structure:
- enables efficient removal of the removed material
- lower heat generation compared to fully coated strips
- better visual control during work
- high flexibility
